Match Reports April 23rd & 24th 2016

Under 7s

U7s played their last games of the season against Pannal Ash, winning two, drawing one and losing the other. All the kids played very well.

Under 8s

U8s played in a gala and endured a very frustrating morning. The format consisted of 5 minute matches played on a tiny pitch. The lads did well but should have done so much better. Team A in their first match peppered the Wetherby goal for the whole game. Wetherby touched the ball about three times, one of which was a goal, so we lost the first game. We won the others, then due to the rules not allowing subs, we had to drop two key players for the last match, which we lost, so went out.  Team B won three, drew two and didn't concede a single goal today but still went out. They even beat Wetherby's first team, who went on to win the competition.

Under 9s

U9 apr 2016 gala.jpgU9s were terrific in an end of season tournament at Wetherby. The A team played 5 matches and didn't concede a single goal. They managed a thumping win and 4 draws. Disappointingly, this wasn't sufficient to progress to the semi finals which was a real shame as I'm convinced we were the best team in the group.

The B team exceeded all expectations by winning the group and getting to the semi finals. The match was level at full time so we went to penalties.  Despite our keeper pulling off a world class save with his face (he still has Mitre imprinted on his cheek) we didn't win and just missed out.

All in all it shows how far we have come in a year as the same players struggled to compete in last season's tournament.

Under 12s

U12s ended their losing run with an enjoyable and hard fought 2-2 draw with a good Wigton Moor side (to whom we lost 5-1 only a few weeks ago). And we nearly nicked it with the last kick of the game too. Looks like it's all coming together just as the season ends.

Under 13s Girls

KDR Kites drew 2-2 with Rawcliffe in the league. We were 2-0 up at one point and it just shows the girls confidence now in that they were disappointed with a draw. Massive congrats to Nic too who ran the London marathon in an amazing time of 3hr 57m 34s (in his first marathon too!). This is Nic in his marathon shirt with some of the girls.

Under 13s Boys

U13s lost 5-0 away at Pannal Sports. Against a team that hasn't lost a league game in 2 seasons we decided to give them a 4 goal start before we started playing after 15 minutes of the game. We matched them in the rest of the game although we were not massively threatening up front.

Under 16s

U16s completed their league season with an 8-0 victory against bottom of the table Harrogate Railway Locos. KDR opened the scoring after only 2 minutes when a perfectly flighted corner by Ryan Castelow was headed home by Rowan Bentley. Shortly afterwards, Kyle Mackinnon was very unlucky to see his shot hit the post and rebound along the goal line to safety. After a number of other missed chances, Deighton's second goal came when James O'Sullivan's shot hit the post and Greg Moodie scored from the rebound. Greg then scored again with a header from Ryan's corner. On the stroke of half-time, James fired a powerful shot from outside the penalty area into the roof of the net.

The score stayed at 4-0 until after 17 minutes of the second half, Rowan volleyed a pass through the Railway defence and Josh Quinn finished with composure. Following this, Callum Unsworth scored from Josh's neat pass into the box. Callum then provided assists for the final two goals - a corner floated to the far post for Kyle to score with a header and a cross across the box which Ryan finshed with a powerful shot across the Railway 'keeper.

Man of the Match was Ryan Castelow with runner up being Henry Beanland.
