Match Reports November 7th & 8th 2015
Congratulations to the U7s, who enjoyed their first friendly matches against Collingham at Grange Park on Saturday, winning 3 out of 4 games and scoring 11 goals.
The U9s played away at Beckwithshaw Saints on astroturf. Some good results across the two mixed ability teams in both games, with 2 wins, a draw and a defeat. Had it not been for some soft goalkeeping coupled with two own goals we could well have avoided that single defeat.
U14s beat Bedale 3-2 at Grange Park to go joint top of the league (along with 4 other teams in a league of 7). The result was overshadowed by a broken arm for one of the boys, making it now 3 broken arms in the squad.
U16s won 8-0 against Nidd Utd at Grange Park. Deighton were given the perfect start in only the 2nd minute by Miles Lowson who scored with an accurate lob of the keeper from a Toby Giddings throw in. Sam Monaghan was then influential in the next 4 goals before half time, scoring two and providing two assists with a long ball for Ryan Castelow and a well flighted corner for a powerful header by Alex Diggle. In the second half, Ryan scored again before his low cross forced an own goal from the Nidd keeper. Finally, Kyle Mackinnon's run into the box earned a penalty from which Alex Diggle scored.
Under 17s won 5-3 away at local rivals Wetherby in a relatively uneventful derby, other than the 8 goals, a penalty save and a sending off for the opposition. The lads were superb again today.
