Girls visit Doncaster Belles
Sunday 16th October saw two U14s and twelve U12s Kirk Deighton Rangers JFC players take to the pitch and play football at a professional football league ground. The KDR girls were ball girls at a Women's Super League match that took place at the Keepmoat Stadium, home of Doncaster Rovers.
The girls were escorted through the players' entrance, taken to the TV interview room, the changing room area and got to walk out of the players' tunnel onto the pitch. They had a long range shooting competition on the hallowed turf, sat in the manager's dugout and formed the guard of honour to welcome the two teams – Doncaster Belles and Notts County - out onto the pitch.
The girls were then able to watch the game at very close quarters in their role as ball girls. At half time with the Belles losing 2-1 the girls then showed off their footballing skills in front of the crowd of 820 by playing a small sided game in their KDR kit. After the match they were able to meet some of the players including England star Laura Bassett.
The girls were a real credit to Kirk Deighton Rangers and with their picture prominent in the Belles match day programme have promoted the club and girls football in general right across the county. Huge thanks to the staff at Doncaster Belles who made the day so enjoyable for the girls.
