Match Reports October 22nd & 23rd 2016
Girls U12s Dragons lost 1-3 to Poppleton Tigers who are below us in the league. Poppleton only had 6 players whereas we had a squad of 9. A poor first half saw us go in three goals down at the break. We played much better in the second half but were unable to overcome the deficit.
U13s Blues lost 4-7 away to Leeds Maccabi. A positive start saw us take an early two goal lead, before being pegged back to a 3-2 advantage at half time. Both sides went on the offensive in the second half, and we lost our shape at the back, conceding five and managing to score just one goal in reply.
Only 10 players were available for U16s game against a strong Pannal Ash side, and an injury soon saw us go down to 9. The boys never gave up all match, and tried to play football when in possession. Going in 0-4 down at half time was no disgrace. In the second half we tried to give as good as we got and a tremendous spirited effort saw us score 3 but concede 5. To score 3 goals with only 9 men was a credit to the boys' tenacity and determination.
U17s lost 0-2 against Pannal Sports Predators. Pannal took the lead after only 3 minutes and overall had the majority of possession in the first half - although Deighton threatened on the break with Jake Swift going close to equalising on several occasions. The second half was more even and KDR were unlucky not to score with a shot from distance by Luke Kilby that came back off the post. However, Pannal wrapped up the 3 points when a long range shot took a bounce in front of the Deighton keeper and into the net.
The KDR 'Kirby Builders Merchants' Man of the Match was Miles Lowson for a flawless performance at left back.
